A
place of antique legends and magic rites, Lake Pilato and the Gorge of
Infernaccio offer evocative landscapes with mountain-tops that reach up
to 2476 meters (mount Vettore). Rigorous walking tours for people with
walking experience.
In
the past magicians and riders wandered to “The Gola dell’Infernaccio”
(the Gorge of Hell) which they reached after exhausting journeys from
all over Europe, with the hope to get an oracle from the Sibylle. "Here
stay the devils, and they give answer to the ones that question them”
wrote Leandro Alberti (1557). Goethe solved the mystery in the 4th act
of Faust: "The forces of these mountains are strong; here nature
works freely with excessive power; it is the stupidity of the priests
condemning that as witchcraft”. Today these mountains offer just
an occasion to meditate upon the greatness of Nature.
